It depends on what your teeth need, which is why we quote after examining you rather than before. The main factors are how much movement is required, whether one arch or both are being treated, which appliance is used, and how long treatment will run.

At your consultation you get a written treatment plan with a firm figure. Nothing is added to it afterwards. The fee covers the appliance, all routine and emergency appointments, your first set of retainers, and retainer checks for a year after treatment finishes.

Fees vary widely between practices and between cases, so any figure quoted online is a guess until someone has looked in your mouth.

What moves the number is the complexity of the case, the appliance chosen, whether both arches are treated and how long it takes. Metal fixed braces are generally the most affordable route to a corrected bite. Ceramic braces and clear aligners sit above them.

For a small number of children, yes. The HSE funds orthodontic treatment for the most severe cases only, assessed against the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need, and referral has to happen before the age of sixteen. Most children do not meet the threshold, and adults are not eligible at all.

Yes, treating one arch costs less than treating both, because it is less work over a shorter period.

The question is whether it is appropriate. Upper-only treatment suits cases where the lower teeth are already well aligned and the bite will still fit together properly at the end. Where the bite needs correcting, treating one arch alone will not do it and can leave you worse off.

Often, yes. Retreatment after relapse is usually shorter and simpler than the original course, because the underlying bite was corrected the first time and it is mainly alignment that has drifted. A short aligner course or a limited fixed brace is frequently enough.
